This Privacy Policy explains how SoftClever handles information when users install or use Chrome extensions developed and published by SoftClever.
This policy currently applies to:
- Freelancer AI Proposal Generator
- Upwork AI Proposal Generator
These extensions help users generate personalized freelance project proposals using job information displayed on supported Freelancer.com or Upwork pages and an OpenAI API key provided by the user.
Information Accessed by the Extensions
Depending on the extension and feature being used, the extensions may access or process the following information:
- Job or Project Title: The title displayed on the current supported Freelancer.com or Upwork project page.
- Job or Project Description: The description displayed on the current supported project page.
- Freelancer Name or Signature: The name or signature voluntarily entered by the user in the extension settings.
- Portfolio Information: Portfolio links or related information voluntarily provided by the user.
- Proposal Preferences: Preferred language, minimum and maximum proposal length, portfolio-display preference, and similar configuration settings.
- OpenAI API Key: The API key voluntarily provided by the user to communicate with the OpenAI API.
- Generated Proposal: The proposal returned by OpenAI after the user requests proposal generation.
The extensions are not designed to collect financial information, payment-card details, marketplace passwords, private messages, general browsing history, or information from unrelated websites.
How Information Is Used
The information accessed by the extensions is used only to provide the disclosed proposal-generation functionality.
The extensions use this information to:
- Identify the title and description of the current job or project.
- Prepare a personalized proposal-generation request.
- Send the request to OpenAI after the user activates the proposal-generation feature.
- Display or insert the generated proposal into the relevant proposal field.
- Remember the user’s extension preferences between browser sessions.
- Display errors and help troubleshoot unsuccessful proposal-generation requests.
The extensions do not use this information for advertising, unrelated profiling, credit assessment, lending decisions, or data brokerage.
OpenAI API Processing
The extensions use the OpenAI API to generate proposals.
When the user chooses to generate a proposal, relevant information is transmitted directly from the user’s browser to OpenAI. This information may include:
- The current job or project title.
- The current job or project description.
- The user’s name or proposal signature.
- User-provided portfolio links.
- The selected proposal language.
- The selected minimum and maximum proposal length.
- Instructions required to generate the proposal.
The user’s OpenAI API key is included in the authorization header required to authenticate the API request. The API key is not intentionally included as text inside the proposal-generation prompt.
Under the current extension architecture, proposal-generation requests are sent directly from the user’s browser to OpenAI. SoftClever does not operate an intermediary proposal-generation server and does not intentionally receive or store the user’s API key, job description, proposal prompt, or generated proposal.
OpenAI processes submitted information according to its own terms, privacy policy, API settings, security practices, and data-retention rules.
Users should review the OpenAI Privacy Policy before using the proposal-generation feature:
Users should not submit confidential, legally protected, highly sensitive, or unnecessary personal information through the proposal generator.
Extension Storage
The extensions use the Chrome Extension Storage API to save settings and information voluntarily provided by the user.
Saved information may include:
- OpenAI API key.
- Freelancer name or proposal signature.
- Portfolio links.
- Preferred proposal language.
- Minimum and maximum proposal length.
- Portfolio-display preference.
- Other extension configuration settings.
Depending on the extension version, information may be stored using chrome.storage.local or chrome.storage.sync.
Information saved using chrome.storage.local remains within the user’s Chrome browser profile unless it is changed or removed.
Information saved using chrome.storage.sync may be synchronized by Google Chrome across browsers where the user is signed in and Chrome Sync is enabled.
SoftClever does not have direct access to information stored in the user’s Chrome Extension Storage.
Extension Permissions
The extensions request only the permissions required to provide their disclosed functionality.
- Storage Permission: Used to save the user’s OpenAI API key and extension preferences.
- Supported Website Access: Used to read the current job title and description and interact with proposal fields on supported Freelancer.com or Upwork pages.
- OpenAI API Access: Used to send a proposal-generation request to OpenAI after the user activates the feature.
Website access is used only where necessary to provide the features described in the extension interface and Chrome Web Store listing.
User Action and Consent
The extensions do not automatically send a job description to OpenAI merely because the user visits a supported page.
A proposal-generation request is sent only after the user activates the proposal-generation feature.
By activating the feature, the user authorizes the extension to send the relevant job information and user-provided proposal preferences to OpenAI for proposal generation.
Information Sharing
Extension information may be processed by the following third parties:
- OpenAI: Receives the information required to generate a proposal after the user activates the feature.
- Google Chrome: May process or synchronize extension settings when Chrome Extension Storage and Chrome Sync are used.
- Freelancer.com or Upwork: May receive the generated proposal when the user chooses to enter or submit it through the applicable marketplace.
- Legal or Security Authorities: Information may be disclosed if required by applicable law, a valid legal process, or to protect users and services against fraud, abuse, or security threats.
SoftClever does not sell, rent, trade, or transfer extension user information to advertisers, data brokers, or unrelated third parties.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use Disclosure
The use of information received from Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Information accessed by the extensions is used only to provide or improve the extensions’ disclosed single purpose: helping users generate proposals for relevant freelance projects.
SoftClever does not:
- Sell extension user data.
- Use extension user data for personalized advertising.
- Transfer extension user data to data brokers.
- Use extension user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
- Use job descriptions, API keys, portfolio information, or generated proposals for unrelated purposes.
SoftClever does not allow humans to read extension user data unless the user explicitly provides the information for support, access is required for security or abuse investigation, or disclosure is required by applicable law.
Data Retention
SoftClever does not retain proposal-generation content on a SoftClever server under the current extension architecture.
Information stored through Chrome Extension Storage generally remains until the user:
- Changes or removes the saved information.
- Clears the extension’s stored data.
- Disables Chrome Sync where applicable.
- Uninstalls the extension.
Information transmitted to OpenAI is subject to OpenAI’s applicable data-retention policies, API settings, and account configuration.
A generated proposal may remain in a marketplace proposal field, browser session, saved draft, or submitted proposal depending on the user’s actions and the applicable marketplace’s policies.
User Controls and Data Deletion
Users may control their information by:
- Changing or removing saved extension settings.
- Removing their name, signature, or portfolio links.
- Deleting or replacing their saved OpenAI API key.
- Revoking an OpenAI API key through their OpenAI account.
- Clearing the extension’s stored data through Chrome.
- Disabling Chrome Sync.
- Disabling or uninstalling the extension.
SoftClever cannot directly delete information held independently by OpenAI, Google, Freelancer.com, or Upwork. Users should use the relevant provider’s privacy controls or contact that provider directly.
Data Security
Proposal-generation requests are transmitted to OpenAI through encrypted HTTPS connections.
Reasonable technical measures are used to limit extension access to the information required for its disclosed functionality. However, no browser storage system, internet transmission, or electronic storage method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Users are responsible for protecting their browser profile, device, marketplace accounts, and OpenAI API key. API keys should never be shared publicly.
Children’s Privacy
The proposal-generator extensions are intended for users who are legally permitted to use the applicable freelance marketplaces and OpenAI services.
The extensions are not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
SoftClever may update this Privacy Policy when extension functionality, permissions, third-party integrations, legal obligations, or data practices change.
Updates will be posted on this page with a revised “Last Updated” date. Users are encouraged to review this policy periodically.
